LPSA AIR QUALITY POLICY (2026)
P.A.S. – Prepare • Assess • Support
Prepare
Children are particularly sensitive to smoke and poor air quality because their respiratory systems are still developing.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor smoke forecasts and air quality conditions, which are posted on the LPSA website. Families should make informed decisions about participation based on their child’s health and comfort. If you feel outdoor activity is not appropriate for your child during a given week, please consider whether participation is the right choice for your family during that time.
LPSA Monitoring and Decision-Making
The LPSA Board and coaching staff monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) on an ongoing basis using data from Oregon DEQ and related state sources. Based on current AQI levels, the following modifications may be made to outdoor programs:
Outdoor activities may continue with modifications, including reduced intensity and duration and more frequent breaks.
Outdoor activities will be modified with reduced intensity and duration and more frequent breaks. Coaches will closely monitor players and AQI conditions. Parents who do not wish for their child(ren) to continue participating during these conditions may notify the coach and pick up their child.
All outdoor athletic activities may be canceled. Canceled games or events will be communicated by the LPSA Board via Sports Connect LPSA reserves the right to continue fundraiser or community events that do not involve physical activity for children. Parents may choose to remove their child(ren) at any time.
Health Considerations
If you or your child is sensitive to smoke or air pollution, have asthma, or have other respiratory concerns, please notify program leadership so activities can be modified when possible. When in doubt, families are encouraged not to participate.
Communication
Air quality conditions can change rapidly. LPSA will make every effort to keep families informed. When possible, notifications regarding delays or cancellations due to air quality will be sent via Sports Connect 1–2 hours prior to the start of an activity. Updates will also be posted on Sports Connect app.
If an activity is already in progress and must be canceled due to worsening air quality, families will be contacted and asked to pick up their child within one hour.
Refund Policy
Because LPSA has no control over air quality conditions or resulting changes to practices, games, or events, no refunds will be issued for player registration fees, events, or ticket sales due to smoke or air quality cancellations.
